Wildlife and Environmental Survey

With over 10 years experience in terrestrial and aquatic vertebrate field survey, Wayne Lawler is well qualified to provide this essential data for your environmental assessment or management plan.

Further environmental survey experience in water quality and chemistry, soil classification and chemical analysis, vegetation survey (field and remote sensing) and invertebrate sampling and taxonomy rounds out a complete service.

Wayne can provide comprehensive and creditable data, or a finished product with analysis and recommendations, such as a fauna chapter in an EIS.

Application:

Wildlife surveys can be conducted on a subcontract basis for environmental consultants, project developers or managers for EIA purposes, government departments for biodiversity assessment, and on private land or pastoral leases directly for landholders/managers for management planning. Fauna and flora surveys are an important component of modern integrated land management. Or just find out what you have on your own block! Surveys can be conducted anywhere in Australia and our region, including remote locations.

Sample of Experience:

Allied skills:

Bird banding, bat detecting, mist netting, trapping, vegetation survey, radio-telemetry and associated research activities. GIS and remote sensing data collection and analysis. Environmental survey of water quality, soils and soil chemistry, geomorphology, hydrology. An interesting assignment was setting up a scientifically valid community water quality monitoring project in collaboration with the Queensland EPA, requiring program design and training volunteers in data collection and the use of field spectrophotometry.

Safety:

Workplace health and safety is a high priority in field situations, whether solo or leading a team. Wayne has a strong track record of safety in the field, has senior first aid qualifications, and as a trained past officer of the Queensland Fire and Rescue Authority, is competent in emergency procedures.

Survey Design:

Ensure that your data stands up to critical scrutiny. Wayne understands the requirements of experimental design and the demands for statistical power that modern analysis places on field data sets. Good design must be built into wildlife survey at the start - it cannot be added to a field data set once collected!

Basic data summary and analysis, and a professionally presented report is part of the service. Advanced analysis and presentation can also be supplied.Extra costs may include hire of small mammal traps, air charter, boat hire, scat analysis, bat call analysis, permits.
