Contract nature tour guiding

Wayne Lawler is also available for contract or relief extension work in ecotourism, natural heritage interpretation and environmental education.

He is an experienced interpretation guide in ecotourism, having been a head guide, an interpretation ranger (NSW NP&WS), a catchment co-ordinator, requiring interpretation and extension activities (Central Queensland) and a widely travelled photographer producing environmental audio-visual material.

A comprehensive knowledge of natural history and bush lore, and field skills including experience with heavy 4wd vehicles and a bus authorisation allow a complete service at short notice.

Experience

Head Land Guide, Carnarvon Wilderness Lodge and Seven Spirit Bay:
Duties include program coordination (5 guides), guided nature and cultural tours with commentary for small groups (up to 20 pax) by 4wd, and on foot, dinghy and tour boat, and the planning of tour programmes. Tours focus on wildlife, ecology, pioneer history and aboriginal lore.
Other duties include general guest liaison from arrival to departure, advice and assistance for guests in a wilderness environment (eg. pythons in the rafters), night time audio visual presentations, establishment and maintenance of walking tracks (designed and constructed a network), fire management planning and equipment maintenance, field equipment purchase and maintenance (eg. boats etc).

Interpretive Ranger, NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service.
Duties involved conducting interpretive tours of two coastal national parks introducing visitors to flora, fauna and ecological processes.

Catchment Co-ordinator, Baffle Creek:
This involved work with local community members and used the same skills in natural history, environmental education, interpersonal skills, leadership in field situations. Duties included planning and conducting nature tours of the catchment, Water Watch courses with school children, and public relations directed at natural heritage and catchment management awareness. A requirement of all positions was the rapid acquisition of locally specific knowledge, both natural and cultural.

Safety and related experience

UHF, VHF and HF radio coms, emergency procedures (having been a trained auxiliary fire and rescue officer with the QFRA and a member of bush fire brigades (Level 1) and SES), mechanical maintenance of 4wd's (travel extensively in remote areas in 4wds), and speed boat licence. St. Johns Senior First Aid Certificate and Queensland Ambulance First Aid Certificate, HR licence and a current bus authorisation (classes G, S). Masters Degree in Resource Science (by research), background in professional natural history, wildlife survey/ research and environmental science, fit healthy and affable.
